1) My Hike Life

As of now, I started consistently hiking once a week, since June 27. I will continue to do so.

(FYI, I graduated from Environmental Studies with a concentration of Energy Management and Design. I have never been much of an outdoor type of person, until now. I have never camped just yet.)

On June 27, my hike life started when my good friend asked me to go hiking with him at Skyline Wilderness Park in Napa, California.

I have never heard of Skyline Wilderness Park before. Surprisingly, I have lived in the Bay Area for the last 21 years. (I am horrible.) My good friend found Skyline Wilderness Park on BAHiker.com, which provides you almost every hiking trail in the Bay Area. (Thank you, Jane Huber.)

I continue on hiking because... (Here is a list shown below.)
  • Nature is beautiful. (Appreciate life more, other than stay home. I stop and stare, once I see a great view.)
  • It calms my mind. (No distraction from technology. Usually, there is no signal. This is my type of meditation.)
  • It teaches me how to prepare my life. For instance, deciding what to pack in my backpack, such as water, snacks, lunch, and etc. (As I hike more, I will pack smarter.)
  • Keeps my body in good shape. (A great cardio workout)
  • Knowing my sense of direction. (Improves my memory)
  • If lost, it develops my critical thinking under pressure. (Although, I have not experienced it yet.)
  • Meeting friendly people as you walk by them with a smile and greeting, "Hi, how are you?"
  • It goes with my quote, "The past is remembered. Live in the present. The future is in you." How, so? Finally, I have reached to the top of the mountain. I take a break, so I can eat my chicken legs. (Video shown below of myself eating a chicken leg. It was taken at Marin Headlands.)
I turn my shoulder, then I look back. I tell myself, "Whoa, I walked that. The past is remembered." Few minutes later, I start finishing my trail. I look ahead on how I must walk this challenging trail. (The future is in me.) It seems like it was once a creek. I see many rocks slightly buried into soil. I must walk this carefully, or else I might sprain my ankle. (No way, you can text and hike.)

And the list will continue on, as I consistently hike.

Smile, and enjoy nature. Appreciate life. Keep exploring while you still can. Live in the present.

I will keep posting my hiking journey here, and on my Instagram @Mikes_HikeLife.
